I’ve been searching for the best crispy potatoes/homemade French fry recipe for what feels like forever. As much as I love French fries, deep frying is both unhealthy, and a massive mess. I’ve followed all the recipes: par-boil the potatoes, mash them and mix with starch, etc. I finally hit upon this combination that is simultaneously super simple, mess free, and amazingly good. You can season to your heart’s content and I’m not lying when I say that I prefer this recipe to 99% of restaurant French fries. These are perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and you can cut them into wedges, chunks, or rounds, or really whatever configuration you prefer.
One of my favorite things about potatoes is how cheap and filling they are. Everybody loves them and they make a great side dish when you need to quickly bulk up a meal. My local grocery store has a sale on potatoes at least twice a month where I can get a 10-lb bag of potatoes for $1.99 as opposed to Sam’s Club or Walmart where they generally run $5-6 for 10 lbs. I stock up every time the sale happens and we go through at least two to three ten pound bags per month. I’ve found countless ways to use this recipe to enhance a meal.
with burgers — instead of French fries, I try to make crispy potatoes whenever my husband makes his incredible smashburgers for dinner. With homemade burger buns and homemade burger patties, this meal becomes pretty healthy and fulfilling!
on salad — I’ll do an article later about my favorite cheeseburger salad, but these potatoes make amazing salad topping whether hot or cold.
loaded fries — I like to cook up some ground beef, add taco seasoning, cheese, and taco toppings and do a sort of loaded French fry plate for dinner.
as a meal by themselves — when I was morning sick, there were few things I could stomach but crispy potatoes and ketchup was one of the things that I ate on repeat.
in breakfast burritos — as a breakfast afficionado, breakfast burritos are the top tier breakfast food. You can have all your favorite veggies, eggs, cheese, sausage and/or bacon, hot sauce, and potatoes all in one place. Pretty much, all the best foods in the world, combined. I’m getting off topic because I started thinking about breakfast burritos. Anyway, these potatoes are amazing in breakfast burritos or alongside eggs in any breakfast meal.
